The 5th international Data Science Conference iDSC is hosted by the University of Continuing Education Krems (Danube University Krems) in Austria. Situated in the historic wine region of Wachau, the university is known for its strong focus on practically applicable research in partnership with international universities, businesses, and the public sector, as well as its special continuing education study programs. The university is constantly expanding its study programs and research teams, including a newly built campus situated in between the Lower Austrian vineyards and close to the Danube, as well as a state-of-the-art activity-based office, used as a testing ground for new work models.

The region invites for wine tastings at the traditional “Heurigen”, tasting regional specialties, and enjoying the surrounding nature, with a hike in the vineyards or along the Danube. The historical city center of Krems shows some of the most beautiful historic buildings in Lower Austria. The conference program will give you the opportunity to learn more about the area and enjoy regional specialties. We look forward to welcoming you to Krems in May 2023!

Travel Information

Airport to Krems

There exist several possibilities to get from the Airport to Krems via public transportation. One possibility is to take the CAT (City Airport Train), which leaves directly from the airport and brings you to central Vienna (Landstraße/Wien Mitte). From there, you can take the subway line U4 to “Heiligenstadt”. From here, you can then change to the regional train “Regionalexpress (REX)”, which goes directly to Krems.

The second possibility is to leave from the Airport directly via the Railjet (RJ) to St. Pölten and change there to the “Regionalexpress (REX)” directly to Krems. While with this option you have to change less, it might be tricky to catch the REX in St. Pölten depending on your time of arrival, as it has a lower frequency than the one from Vienna to Krems. Just keep this in mind when you are planning your trip. Both rides themselves take about 1h 40min.

How to reach the venue/university campus

Once you arrive in Krems, there are several possibilities to get to the university. The first option is by bus, leaving from bus platform 1. The bus platforms are located to the left, when you leave the train station. The stop you need is “Donau-Universität”.

The second option is by taking a taxi. The ride takes about 5 minutes and the taxi station is in front of the train station.

The third option is by having a walk. This will take you between 15-20min.

There are several options within Krems for your stay. The hotel that is the closest to the campus is the arte Hotel Krems.
